The Orange County School Board is pleased to announce Mr. Wendell Green as principal of Orange County High School (OCHS). During its July 29, 2019 meeting, the School Board took action to replace acting principal Mrs. Sherry Doane.

Green earned a bachelor’s degree in behavioral justice from Glenville State College and completed his Master of Education degree and administrative program from the University of Virginia. Mr. Green began his career in education at Orange County High School in 2001 where he served as a special education teacher and football coach. He continued his work in education with Charlottesville City and Albemarle County Public Schools. Prior to his work in education, Mr. Green served as a group home director in Florida before moving to Virginia and serving as Executive Director for Resources for Independence. In this role, Mr. Green directed three residential group homes in Northern Virginia, providing residential housing to 20 individuals with developmental disabilities. He supervised more than 50 employees and managed a budget of 1.1 million dollars.

Superintendent Dr. Cecil Snead said, “Mr. Green’s broad range of experiences with students, coupled with his past administrative successes as executive director for various group homes, suggest that he has the skill set necessary to ensure that our high school students are afforded the proper academic, socio- emotional, career and extra-curricular opportunities necessary to engage today’s learners.” Dr. Snead went on to add, “Mr. Green is affable and student-centered. When asked of his strengths, he humbly admits that relationship-building is his strength as he sees this as a key attribute to success with students and adults alike. I’m very pleased to embrace Mr. Green as the visionary leader of Orange County High School.”

Mr. Green resides in Charlottesville with his fiancé Darcina and is the proud father of three boys Cameron, Brice and Torry. Expressing his enthusiasm for the opportunity to return to Orange County, Green said, “It’s an honor and privilege for me to return back to a community that I hold dear to my heart. Orange County is a community of people that values hard work, integrity, and respect for one another. I am looking forward to working with the administrative team, faculty, staff, community, and most importantly, the students”.

Green will begin on Tuesday, July 30, 2019.
