The school board conducted a work session last evening (July 27, 2020) where we introduced the final drafts of the instruction plan and health plan.** We are at liberty to share the presentations as presented to the school board at the work session. You’ll find the presentations’ links in the next paragraph. The actual planning documents are in the process of being vetted and approved with the Virginia Department of Education. For example, the Health Plan is a 50+ page document that is replete with nuanced details.

Also, please be reminded that staff works with many agencies whose personnel communicate to us the most current COVID-19 science and COVID-19 guidance. The experts from the following agencies informed our decisions regarding the plans that were communicated in the Instruction Presentation and the Health Presentation: Virginia Department of Health, our school board attorney, the Virginia Department of Education, the Centers for Disease Control, the American Pediatrics Association, the Virginia Association of Counties Group Self-Insurance Risk Pool (VACORP), the Department of Labor, the International Sanitary Supply Association, the American Lung Association, the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, and The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning.

As Orange County’s situation changes, we will continue to maintain our relationship with our local  Virginia Department of Health Office to inform our decisions. We will also continue to inform you should our status change with regard to reopening. For example, what we believe now is that the data suggests support for a (1) reopening hybrid option [A/B day and virtual for the other days] for families or a (2) 100% Virtual OC option for families.

**The entire Health Plan document will be posted on the website upon VDOE approval. The Instruction Plan document will be posted on the website after the August 3rd school board meeting.
