OCPS Students and Families –
As Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) works to safeguard student health during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, we want parents to be aware of the potential for longterm closure. OCPS will continue to work with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to determine the potential need for any school closures.
We recognize the important role public schools have in slowing the spread of diseases within the community. While our schools currently remain open, we want parents to be prepared in the event schools should close. We encourage parents to be proactive and make alternate childcare arrangements.
Staff have begun developing instructional plans for students in the event that schools are closed. Students will be provided with preliminary instructional plans on Friday, March 13. Monday, March 16, 2020 will be a student holiday / ALL staff work day. On this work day staff will finalize instructional plans for alternative learning modalities in the event of a system-wide closure.
All announcements regarding school closures will be communicated through local media, the OCPS website and the SchoolMessenger system.
We encourage parents, students, staff and community members to continue exercising everyday precautions. Everyday precautions include –
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, or having been in a public place.
- If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
- Wash your hands after touching surfaces in public places.
- Avoid touching your face, nose, eyes, etc.
- Clean and disinfect your home to remove germs: practice routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces (for example: tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, toilets, faucets, sinks & cell phones)
