Integrating Technology for Student Achievement
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. How do I accumulate “tech points”?

A. Points will be awarded for participation in Integrating Technology for Student Achievement (ITSA) events.

  1. points are awarded as specified in course description

  2. one (1) point per hour will be awarded for “workshop time” spent with an ITRT working on a technology project or lesson for your class after completing a course

  3. one (1) point per hour will be awarded for being observed while using your new technology skill in the classroom by a member of the technology team (lesson plan required for observation points)

Q. What can I do with “tech points”?

Level 1
A single person needs 10 tech points to receive either a projector, a SMARTBoard, or another piece of technology deemed appropriate (at this time laptops are NOT available as a Level 1 award).  3 of the 10 points MUST be from observations that include lesson plans.

A group of 2 may combine points (need a total of 15 combined) to receive a projector, a SMARTBoard, or another piece of technology deemed appropriate (at this time laptops are NOT available as a Level 1 award).  3 of the 15 points MUST be from observations that include lesson plans.

Level 2
A single person needs 10 points + Level 1 requirements to receive a laptop.

A group of 2 needs 15 points + Level 1 requirements to receive a laptop to share.

Beyond Level 2
Laptops, additional classroom desktop, or another piece of technology deemed appropriate will be awarded at the “advanced” level after a person/group has completed Levels 1 and 2.

Q. How can I practice or be observed if I don't have any equipment in my classroom?

A. Laptops, Projectors, and SMARTBoards will be available on short-term loan to participants currently taking classes or who have completed classes in order to use in the classroom for observations and practice as they are available.

Q. Can we have a session for all the teachers in my school at once?

A. No.  Due to the hands-on nature of our classes, the maximum class size is 5 participants (preference of time slot availability will be given to groups of 3 or more that can meet at the same time/place).

Q. I already know how to use a computer and projector, but I would really like a permanent one for my classroom.  Do I really have to take all of the classes?

A. If you feel that you already have the skills required by a course you may set up a meeting and observation with an ITRT to determine if you qualify for prior knowledge points.
