Mr. Eugene Kotulka
was named principal of Orange County High School
in July, 2006. His previous administrative
experienced included an internship at Courtland
High School, assistant principal at Spotsylvania
High School and principal at Magna Vista High
School in Henry County.
He earned a
bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana
University, Pennsylvania and master’s degree in
school administration and supervision from
Virginia Commonwealth University. His
educational experience includes 20 years of
teaching social studies and mathematics for
Chesterfield County Public Schools, Hopewell
City Public Schools, King George Public Schools
and Spotsylvania County Public Schools.
Kotulka’s most
direct responsibility will be oversight of the
alternative education program housed at the
Taylor Education Complex. He also will be
responsible for broader division-wide management
of student health and welfare, including
attendance and truancy enforcement, guidance
counseling, discipline appeals, and all matters
associated with student safety. In addition,
Kotulka will serve as the school division’s
primary liaison with parents and parent
organizations, as well as all community agencies
that deal with the health, safety and welfare of
children and youth.
“The new position
will give me the opportunity to focus my
attention and abilities more closely on students
in need of special services and alternate
education,” Kotulka said. “This is the
population of students that provide the greatest
challenge as the division seeks to achieve the
100% graduation rate. My goals are to assist
these students to be more academically focused,
reduce the time principals spend on
student-services related issues, and to increase
the time principals spend on academic issues and
student achievement.”
