Orange County High School Students Work on Rapidan River Restoration Project

Orange County High School students had the opportunity to plant a 50 foot riparian buffer consisting of 100 trees and shrubs along the Rapidan river just down from Spicer’s Mill. They also performed a visual assessment of the Rapidan river via kayak.  Beth Seale of Rapidan River Kayak Company came into the classroom before the project to teach the students about conservation practices and visual assessments to determine the health of a river during their aquatic ecosystem unit.  This culminating experience was made possible with help from Friends of the Rappahannock,  Rapidan River Kayak Company, Piedmont Environmental Council, Virginia Outdoor Center, and the Chesapeake Bay Trust.
