Orange County Students and Staff Participate in Hour of Code

The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify “code”, to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts.

All Orange Schools are Fully Accredited

Press Release – September 25, 2017

According to information released by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), all nine Orange County schools met or exceeded the statewide benchmarks set for Standards of Learning (SOL) test scores and have been rated as Fully Accredited. This year, Orange County was one of only 65 school divisions across the state that were able to achieve 100% of their schools earning that designation.

Online Student Registration Now Available

Orange County Public Schools is going to be collecting student information this year through the use of a new online registration system.  PowerSchool Registration will allow the parents/guardians to update their returning students’ information using a computer from any location that has access to the Internet.

Orange Elementary School Receives Virginia Index of Performance Award

Orange County Public Schools is pleased to announce that Orange Elementary School (OES) has been awarded the 2017 Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Award. This award is one of the 2017 Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) Awards for advanced learning and achievement which were announced by Governor Terry McAuliffe and the Board of Education on August 8, 2017.

Orange County Public Schools Recognized for Success In Improving Student Outcomes Through VTSSThe Virginia Department of Education presented the second annual Classrooms Not Courtrooms Institute in Richmond on July 24-25, 2017. During this conference, Orange County Public Schools was recognized for their outstanding innovation and commitment to the success of all students.
The award was presented by Dr. Steven R. Staples, Superintendent of Public Instruction and Delegate Lamont Bagby of Henrico County. Bagby was the chief patron of House Bill 1924 which directs the Board of Education to establish guidelines for alternatives to short-term and long-term student suspensions from school.

VTSS’s evidence-based, system-wide practices provide educators with tools and strategies to address the academic, behavioral, social-emotional needs of students while improving the learning environment and addressing disciplinary issues.

Attending the institute from Orange County Public Schools were Bill Berry, Assistant Superintendent; Kelly Guempel, Orange County High School Principal; Merilee Grubb, Locust Grove Primary and Locust Grove Elementary Assistant Principal; Evan Straub, Locust Grove Elementary Principal; and Eugene Williams.
