On Saturday, March 19th, the OCHS SeaPerch Teams competed in the Regional SeaPerch Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) competition sponsored by the United States Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Dahlgren Division. Prior to this competition, students constructed underwater ROVs, and for this competition, teams presented their technical design to a panel of judges and competed with their ROVs in an underwater obstacle course.
The OC Sea Hornets, with members Andrew Horn, Joshua Sullivan, Troy Koverman, and Alexander Holloway, came in first place overall and first place in the High School Stock Class with 150 points. The OC Sea Stingers, with team members Ethan Runion, Keith Lacy, Christopher Minchin, and Joseph Walton placed 11th overall. The OC Sea Stinger’s pilot Ethan Runion had the fastest time of the day on the obstacle course with a time of 2:08 and the second-highest score in the mission course with 20 points, second only to the OC Sea Hornets. The OC Sea Hornets will advance to the SeaPerch International Competition on June 4th, 2022 at the University of Maryland. Congratulations to these students and their sponsor, Mr. Parker!
