Good nutrition and learning go hand in hand!
The Orange County Public Schools Nutrition Services department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students' health, well being and their ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices.

Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.

 

Menu Planning

Our menus are thoroughly checked for compliance to the strictest nutritional requirements. All menu items must meet rigorous standards for low sodium, low fat, 100% whole grain rich, and Zero trans-fat. In addition, total calorie counts must fall within proper nutritional parameters. Menus are planned around fresh fruits and veggies, lean proteins, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products. We continuously look for recipes and foods that our kids will enjoy and have time to eat. The special needs of children with food allergies and sometimes other health issues are part of the equation. We value the partnership with our families.

Crunch Heard 'Round the Commonwealth

Crunch Heard 'Round the Commonwealth!🍎🍏 is a Virginia Farm to School program that increases the awareness of Agriculture in our community. All schools celebrated by crunching apples at lunchtime. UES hosted Mallory Grady, the Farm to School associate from Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission. Thank you to Thornton River Orchard & Market for the delicious apples!
