Fentanyl Awareness

House Bill 1473 requires that all schools in the Commonwealth provide students in grades 9-12 with a fentanyl informational one-sheet developed by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

The purpose of providing this informational one-sheet is to promote awareness of:

the dangers of fentanyl use;
how to identify and avoid fentanyl;
overdose prevention and preparedness;
how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a fentanyl overdose; and
resources for students who may need help or may know someone who needs help with a substance use disorder.

Home Instruction

Homebound Services

Homebound instruction shall be made available to students who are confined at home or in a health care facility for periods that would prevent normal school attendance based upon certification of need by a licensed physician or licensed clinical psychologist. For students eligible for special education or related services, the Individualized Education Program committee must revise the IEP, as appropriate, to direct off-site instruction.

Laws Governing the Prosecution of Juveniles as Adults

Section 22.1-279.4 of the Code of Virginia requires local school boards to provide information, developed by the Office of the Attorney General, to students regarding laws governing the prosecution of juveniles as adults for the commission of certain crimes.

Out-of-County Student Application

ADMISSION OF NONRESIDENT STUDENTS IN OCPS

A student who is not a bona fide resident of Orange County shall not be permitted to enroll in OCPS. However, at the School Board’s sole discretion, a nonresident student may be admitted to OCPS on a tuition-paying basis in accordance with Va. Code § 22.1-5 and pursuant to Orange County School Board Regulation JEC-R School Admission. Learn more.

Student Transfers

All transfer requests shall be considered for approval within the constraints of school, grade level, and classroom capacities as well as program and/or curriculum availability. Requests to transfer for students who require special programs, services, and supports will only be considered if the required programs, services, and supports are available at the requested school. Parents/Guardians must complete the Student Transfer Request Form (JCA-F1) each year. If child care is the reason for the transfer request, parents/guardians must also complete the Child Care Verification Form (JCA-F2).

VA State Police Sex Offender Registry

Each school in the division registers with the Department of State Police to receive electronic notice of the registration, reregistration, or verification of registration information of any person required to register with the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry (the Registry) within the division.
